The sentence of the 12th of January of 1759 condemned the marquises of Távora and several elements of their family to death, confiscated their patrimony and abolished the use of the name Távora. The violence and reach of this decision created a generalized perception of the extinction of the entire Távora family. It just so happens, however, that one of the most important elements for the identity of this lineage – the former entail – was carried over to the branch of the counts of São Vicente, whom, as relatives of those sadly executed, could through this line perpetuate the memory and the representation of the primitive strain of the Távoras. The objective of this now distinguished study was to ascertain in exactly which circumstances the transference of the former entail of the Távoras was passed to the counts of São Vicente.

Lourenço Correia de Matos was also awarded the 2013 Premio Nacional de Estudios Hispanicos for "sus iniciativas, estudios y proyectos culturales hispânicos en Portugal", having already been awarded the same prize in 2008 and the Premio Nacional de Estudios Heráldicos in 2005.

The Federación Española de Genealogía y Heráldica y Ciencias Históricas brings together several Spanish academic institutions dedicated to studies on genealogy, heraldry, nobility and other, being chaired by Alfonso de Ceballos-Escalera y Gila, Professor at the Technical University of Lisbon, at the ISCSP (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), corresponding academic of the Portuguese Academy of History and of the Spanish Real Academia de la Historia. The Federación publishes the Cuadernos de Ayala magazine.

LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles recently joined Empresas Familiares – Portuguese Family Businesses –, becoming its associated assistant with the aim of providing support and expert advice to family businesses and patrimonial families that are members this important association.

Family businesses have their own identity: the strong relationship between its history and the history of the very families they belong to; the tendency for their perpetuation over several generations; the charisma of their founders and leaders at all times; the often lasting connection to certain property assets; the detention of files with interest not only to the family and the company history but also for the history of the markets and regions in which they operate and sometimes even to national history; action in traditional and prestigious business sectors.

LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles thus believes that to know and to show these attributes is to create value for the business or activity of family businesses, strengthening their respective corporate identity and gaining renown and prestige in the markets in which they operate.

Empresas Familiares is a non-profit nationwide institution, in all activity sectors, having as objective to promote family businesses and to give them a voice in the national economic, social and political scene. In Portugal, it is estimated that 70 to 80% of the companies are family-run and that they contribute to 60% of employment and 50% of the gross domestic product.
