- Details
The partner at LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles, Lourenço Correia de Matos, took part in the conference “900 anos ao serviço de uma convicção humanista – História, Cultura e Solidariedade”, commemorating the nine centuries of the Papal Bull of acknowledgement of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta held last September 27th at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
The lecture by Lourenço Correia de Matos, entitled "Para um corpus heráldico melitense português," was part of a panel on "Society and Culture", chaired by historian José Eduardo Franco. The partner at LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles, heraldic consultant of the Order in Portugal, presented the project for the development of a heraldic corpus of the Order of Malta in Portugal and of the Portuguese knights in our country and throughout the world, from the foundation of the Order until today.
The set of conferences was opened by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, and terminated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon, Dom Nuno Brás. The inaugural conference was given by the law professor Pedro Soares Martinez and the closing one by António Sampaio da Nóvoa, former Rector of the University of Lisbon.
The seminar was attended by over two dozen speakers from different areas, amongst which we highlight the professors Martim de Albuquerque, Gonçalo de Vasconcelos e Sousa, Pedro Brito Correia, Monsignor Vítor Feytor Pinto, the researchers José Antonio Falcão and Inês Versos, and the entrepreneurs Miguel Horta e Costa and Ilídio Pinho, among others. The Scientific Committee was chaired by the sculptor João Charters de Almeida and the organizing committee by Augusto de Albuquerque de Athayde, president of the Assembly of the Portuguese Knights of the Order of Malta, responsible for the event.
LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles supports owners and lawyers in the statement of recognition processes of privately owned properties located in public maritime domain
- Details
LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles, due to its experience in the investigation of archives, has worked with several owners or lawyers delegated by them to obtain historical documents that hold the ownership of property located in the area of the public waterways domain.
Indeed, the Law No. 54/2005 of the 15th of November, determined the 1st of July of 2014 as the deadline for the filing of judicial actions for the recognition of private ownership of plots on the margins of the sea or of rivers, otherwise considered public domain. Thus, on the burden of proof, private owners are required to demonstrate that the lands in question were already of private domain at a date prior to the 31st of December of 1864 (or the 22nd of March of 1868, in the case of craggy cliffs).
Given the limitations of records and land registers and despite the recognized difficulty in researching notarial instruments in such remote dates - as a result of, above all, the lack of territorial competences of registries - LMT Abreu Loureiro, Correia de Matos & Galvão Teles has succeeded in finding title deeds, tenure, recognition of rentals and wills, among other essential documents for the production of the necessary evidence.
The palaeographic transcription of documents in the possession of the owners, but whose content is difficult to read for those who are not accustomed to older calligraphy has been another aspect of the support that the researchers of the History and Heritage Consulting firm have provided.
